The Military Auxiliary Radio System is a Department of Defense sponsored emergency communications program, established as a separately managed and operated program by the Army, Navy/Marines and Air Force. The program consists of licensed amateur radio operators who are interested in military communications. They contribute to the MARS mission providing auxiliary or emergency communications on a local, national, and international basis as an adjunct to normal communications.
CWAMARS supports local, state and federal agencies in Colorado and Wyoming. The organization is managed by the State MARS Director (SMD) under direction from the Army MARS Region Director (Region 8).
The SMD’s staff consistes of:
- Two Assistant State Directors (CoASMD and WyASMD)
- A Training officer
- An Administrative Officer
- An Interoperability Officer
